The
Bernese mountain dog is a wonderful dog. If you are reading these lines it is
probably because you agree with me and you want to know more about that
breed, maybe even in order to own one of these wonderful dog. I breed
bernese for two major reasons: I love animals and I like to contribute to
the improvement of the breed. I live in the country that is why I have the
possibility to be surrounded by animals. I work for a veterinarian so I am really
always with animals and can learn new things every day. I also study genetics,
different kinds of illness and problems that dog may have, mouvement, conformation and obedience. On top of bernese I also breed
"Ragdoll" cats. They
are gorgeous big cats with blue eyes that can easily reach 20 pounds or more. But let's go
back to the Bernese....
Here is a brief description of the Bernese mountain dog:
The bernese is a very faithful dog, has a very affectionate character and a big intelligence. His temperament demands at once firmness and softness, but all brutality disgusts it. A little slow to training, it perfectly keeps in memory this that it assimilated.
They are particularly sturdy dogs. They need a weekly brushing and about 2
groomings per year in the spring and the fall. The nails uniformly must be cut and the
ears cleaned. If you arelooking for a big good "toutou" with the children, faithful, active but not
too much, (as the labrador or the golden) well ,the bernese would be an excellent
choice. But attention, before taking your decision do not forget anything about the expenses linked to the purchase of your new companion: the veterinary expenses
to spay or neutered your friend, the vaccines, the heartworm treatments in the
summer, the food (a big dog eats quite a lot) as well as the expenses of the
groomings. Be ready to face
all these expenses on top of the purchase of your puppy.
